The Alabama Fair Debt Collection Practices Act is enforced in conjunction with Alabama’s consumer protection laws and the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. The Alabama Act requires all debt collectors to obtain a state license and pay a fee. The Act does not, however, provide a private remedy, and it is unclear whether the Alabama courts would allow a consumer to bring a lawsuit for a violation of the Act.
