Louisiana has not enacted a separate State law that is substantially different from the FDCPA, although the state’s law does provide a few basic protections consistent with the FDCPA. It does not appear, however, that Louisiana residents can file a private lawsuit to enforce the provisions of the state’s law. Thus, Louisiana residents faced with abusive or harassing collection tactics will receive the most protection and benefit from the FDCPA.
