Utah has not enacted a separate state debt collection law. The state law requires only that collectors register and file a bond with the state – and the law does not allow consumers to bring their own lawsuit for violations of the law. Nevertheless, the residents of Utah are well protected under the federal law. Thus, Utah residents faced with abusive or harassing collection tactics will receive the most protection and benefit from the FDCPA.
If you believe that a collector has behaved inappropriately while attempting to collect a debt from you in Utah, our attorneys can help you to determine whether the FDCPA provides you with a legal remedy.
